Sanvik modified 12c27 stainless steel blade developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment which gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40% which makes it possible to obtain a very satisfactory cutting edge without being susceptible to corrosion.
Its robust 8cm blade is equipped with a wire cutter (diameter 5mm max) and a stripper (diameter 8mm max).
Its handle is made of polyamide loaded with fiberglass which guarantees excellent resistance to shock and water. It has two standard bits: flat screwdriver (4mm screw) and Phillips screwdriver (3.5 to 5mm screw), as well as a magnetic bit holder at the end of the handle.
Virobloc double security system. Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all closing knives from No. 6 onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc is made up of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. This ring locks the blade in the open position for safety of use but also in the closed position for safety in transport.
