Sandvik modified 12C27 stainless steel blade developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment which gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40% which makes it possible to obtain a very satisfactory cutting edge without being sensitive to corrosion.
Its very resistant blade, 8.5 cm long and 2.5 mm thick, has a notched area of 3.5 cm, very efficient for cutting natural or synthetic ropes without tearing, as well as a shackle remover for shackles from 4 to 10 mm.
Its handle is made of polyamide loaded with fiberglass which guarantees excellent resistance to shock, water and extreme temperatures (-40° C to +80° C). A whistle is integrated into the heel of the handle, without a ball it works in all weather, with a power of 100 dB, it has a range of approximately 300 m in an open area.
Virobloc double security system. Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all closing knives from No. 06 onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc is made up of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. This ring locks the blade in the open position for safety of use but also in the closed position for safety in transport.
